One India Kite team to take part in contest

Nine kite-flyers from the city-based One India Kite team will represent India in the world kite-flying contest organised by the International Kite Federation at Weifang city in China from April 19 to 26.

The kite-flyers’ team, which will be led by Syam Padman, will have Abdulla Aliyekkal, Sajid Thoppil, Sundara Murthy, Hashim Kadakalakam, Anoop K. Francis, Mohammed Ali, Revinderpal Singh and Sandesh Kalmadi as members.

65 countries P.V. Abdullakoya, president of Kite Flyers Association of India, said in a communication here on Saturday that delegates from 65 countries would attend the international event.

“Three giant kites, made in the form of cat, duck and bear, would compete for the prize this time,” Mr. Abdullakoya said.

Kite exhibition Ahead of the world programme, the Kite Flyers’ Association, with the support of the Kozhikode Rotary Club and the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will organise a special kite exhibition and live demonstration to showcase the splendour of the pastime for the public on Kozhikode beach from Sunday.

Training for newcomers The three-day programme will also offer training support to newcomers in the field.
