S.N. Ramesh Raj, Deputy General Manager (Radio Planning) and Alternate Nodal Officer, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Kochi, on Saturday, told the special court trying the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan that the tower location of the mobile phone of P. Mohanan, member of the Kozhikode district secretariat of the Communist Party of India- (Marxist) [CPI-M], was identified as Orkatteri on April 2, 2012.

It was on this day that Mohanan; C.H. Ashokan, secretary of the Onchiyam area committee of the CPI (M); and K.K. Krishnan, member of the same committee; and K.C. Ramchandran, member of the Kunnummakkara local committee; gathered at the flower shop of Padayankandi Raveendran M.K., member of the Orkatteri local committee, to allegedly hatch a conspiracy to kill Chandrasekharan, according to the prosecution.

The case related to a hired gang hacking to death the Revolutionary Marxist Party leader at Onchiyam on May 4, 2012. Mr. Ramesh Raj was deposing before R. Narayana Pisharadi, Judge, Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad cases) at Eranhipalam on the second day on Saturday. On Friday, he had produced mobile phone records purportedly linking the CPI(M) leaders to the alleged killers.

Mohanan was named 14th accused in the case; Ashokan, ninth; Krishnan, 10th; Ramachandran, eighth; and Raveendran, 30th accused.

Mr. Ramesh Raj also testified that P.K. Kunhanandan, 13th accused and member of the Panur area committee of the CPI(M) had called Mohanan on his mobile phone on April 20, 2012.

The tower location of the mobile phones of M.C. Anoop (first accused) and Manoj, aka Trouser Manojan, (11th accused) were identified at Chokli on April 10, 2012. The prosecution charge was that the CPI(M) leaders had plotted the murder with the gang led by N.K. Sunil Kumar, aka Kodi Suni (third accused), at Sameera Quarters in Chokli, on the same day.

He also deposed before the court that Manoj Kumar, aka Kirmani Manoj (second accused), had called Kunhanandan at 11.38 p.m. on May 4.

The prosecution also produced the call detail records of the accused Jyothi Babu, member, Kunnothuparamba local committee of the CPI(M), the 12th accused, and Trouser Manojan.

P. Kumarankutty, Special Public Prosecutor, pointed out that the number of incoming calls in Mohanan’s cell phone had significantly dropped after the killing of Chandrasekharan. As many as 3,011 incoming and outgoing calls were recorded in the phone from March 10 to June 26, last year. But the total calls recorded during the period after Chandrasekharan death’s till he was arrested on June 28, 2012 was just 185, he said.
