The prosecution in the T. P Chandrasekharan murder case on Tuesday argued before the trial court here that P. V. Rafeeq aka Vazhappapadachi Rafeeq,(18th accused) had forged the signature of C.K. Rajikanth aka Kurappan ( 25 accused) in the cheque issued by the Kodiyeri Cooperative Bank.
The special prosecutor C.K. Sreedharan, who continued with his final arguments before R. Narayana Pisharadi, judge, Special Additional Sessions Court (Marad Cases), said that the cheque was meant as security for hiring the Toyota Innova Multi Utility Vehicle for the alleged assailants to kill the Revolutionary Marxist Party leader.
C.P. Haris, eighth prosecution witness in the case, had deposed before the court earlier that he had arranged the Toyota Innova Car owned by Naveen Das of Thalassery to Rafeeq.
The case related to a hired gang hacking Chandrasekharan to death at Onchiyam at 10.15 p.m. on May 4, 2012.
Mr. Sreedharan said that Haris had testified that Rafeeq had given the cheque as a security along with a copy of his driving license and stamp paper to the vehicle owner. Haris had also handed over these documents given by Rafeeq to the owner.
Later the Co-operative Bank secretary also told the court that the cheque was issued to Rejikanth as he had a savings account with the bank. It was clear that Rafeeq played a vital role in the crime, the prosecutor said.
Mr. Sreedharan also said that Haris had also deposed that he had handed over the rent of Rs 32,000 on April 25, 2012. It was on the same day the accused had a booze party with his friends at Village Bar in Mahe.
Therefore, the statements of Haris were crucial and significant. The Call Detail Records (CDR) of both Rafeeq and Haris also revealed his involvement, he added. He also pointed out the evidence against C. K. Aswanth, (19th accused) who had created a fake number plate of the Toyota Innova Car.
He had created a number plate bearing KL-18 A 5964 replacing its original number KL-58D 8144.
Mr. Sreedharan also argued that the photo of P. Mohanan (14 accused), member of the Kozhikode district secretariat of the CPI (M) attending a torch rally at Onchiyam martyr’s column in connection with the Party Congress was fake.
The statements of defence witness on the distance between Orkattery town to Onchiyam martyr’s column were not correct.
