On the specifics of their success

June 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Kozhikode:

Focused training, thorough homework, and backing from the family enabled A.S. Ameer Hassan and P. Sreerag fetch the second and third ranks respectively in the State engineering entrance examination. The rank list was published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) on Tuesday.

Both the students have a similar track record.

Similarities

Ameer completed his Plus Two from a government school (Kokkallur Higher Secondary School, Balussery) and devoted his time completely for entrance preparation. He got enrolled in a private coaching institute.

Sreerag, who did his Plus Two from Rahmaniya Vocational Higher Secondary School, Medical College, Kozhikode, also sought the help of the same private coaching centre after he decided to devote one year for the preparations.

Both the candidates, who have already cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) main, are now waiting for the results of the JEE Advanced exam, the result of which will be published on Thursday.

“I am expecting a comfortable rank in the JEE (Advanced) as well,” says a confident Sreerag, whose elder brother is a student of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

Hard work

Ameer, who spends more than 10 hours a day for studies as Sreerag does, is also certain of a good rank in the JEE (Advanced).

“For I want to study in one of the IITs,” says Ameer, whose elder sister is an MBBS student at MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna.

Both Ameer and Sreerag, fall back on their families for support. Both of them had scored high marks in the SSLC and Plus Two examinations. They believe ‘covering the syllabus thoroughly and working on the previous question papers’ are vital to success.

Ameer, who hails from Koottalida, near Balussery, is the son of P. Assan, a school teacher and M.K. Sajna, a homemaker; while Sreerag is from Poovattuparamba, near Mavoor, Kozhikode.

He is the son of Padmanabhan Namboothiri, a journalist and K.C. Lalitha, a bank employee.
