Municipality to hand over land for fire station

July 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Koyilandy Municipality will shortly hand over nearly 25 cents of land to the Fire and Rescue Service Department to start a new unit in Koyilandy. Municipal officials said the formalities related to handing over the land had been completed and the Fire and Rescue Service Department would be able to start the construction works at the earliest.

The unit will come to the benefit of traders and other commercial establishments within a radius of 50 kilometres from Koyilandy. So far, residents had to depend on the units from Vadakara and Kozhikode in case of an emergency. As per the proposal, the new unit will come close to the old bus stand in Koyilandy.

The Divisional Officer of the Fire and Rescue Service had already visited the site for a feasibility study and submitted a report to the higher-ups, giving green signal for the proposal. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala also declared the plan of the government to actively consider the project in a recent reply to the submission raised by Koyilandy MLA K. Dasan in the Assembly.
