Kerala Police Chief T.P. Senkumar, on Monday, suspended Station House Officer P.S. Hareesh and Additional Sub Inspector P.K. Baburaj of Vadakara police station after conducting an inquiry against them on the charges of mishandling a moral policing incident.

Both officials had earlier been transferred to different locations by the District Police Chief as part of an inquiry conducted against them.

Locked inside

It was on March 3 that the moral policing incident took place at the Labour Contract Society office in Vadakara. Thiruvallur Murali, a Congress leader from the area, and a former woman local body head were locked inside an office room by a mob alleging immoral relations between the two.

The police official who reached the spot allegedly acted in favour of the gang and took the two into custody.

Action was initiated against the policemen as they allegedly failed to hear the version of the two persons.

The woman had moved a separate petition explaining her mental trauma after the incident.
