Minister accused of scuttling probe

November 19, 2014 09:15 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:09 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) and the Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation (SKSSF), the youth and student affiliates respectively of the Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, have accused a Congress Minister of trying to scuttle the probe into the sexual assault of a four-and-half-year-old girl student of a school at Parakkadavu in the district.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, the office-bearers of the organisations owing allegiance to the E.K. Sunni faction alleged that this Congress leader from north Kerala had hatched a conspiracy to help the school management.

Conspiracy alleged

Perod Abdurahman Saqafi, the secretary of the All India Sunni Jam-Iyyathul Ulema led by Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musaliar, was also involved in this conspiracy, they alleged.

SYS district president C.H. Mahmood Sa’adi, general secretary Nasar Faizy Koodathai, and SKSSF district president P.C. Kunhalankutty Faizi, and general secretary Subair Kuttikkatoor were present at the press conference. They declined to name the Minister.

Possibly this Minister had an eye on the huge assets acquired by Kanthapuram from different sources or his intention was to please the Sunni faction so as to benefit his group in the Congress party, Mr. Koodathai said.

The Sunni organisations demanded either a judicial inquiry or a probe by a special investigation team monitored by the High Court into the incident.

The school management and a teacher had tried to suppress the incident and tried to insult the girl and her family.

The police should interrogate the secretary of the school management and the teacher to bring out the truth.

Sunni organisations planned to organise agitations with public support against soft-pedalling the probe, they said.
