Merchants who would lose their shops as a result of the widening of the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu road are unhappy about the State government not taking any steps to solve their crisis.
Convenor of a forum of people who would be displaced because of the road development, Haneesh Pathiyeri, told reporters here on Tuesday that they had petitioned the MP, MLAs,and the Mayor, besides the Chief Minister, but no action was taken. The collective demanded a just compensation to the merchants for their loss and a rehabilitation package for labourers.
It also suggested that the government build shopping complexes along the road and hand them over to merchants, free of cost.
Bus bays along the roads should be relocated in order to avoid traffic jams, the forum said.
