In a simple, blue striped sari and a collared, three-quarter-sleeved blouse, and sporting large, black-rimmed spectacles, Parvathy did not quite look like the typical movie star. With her was Kanchanamala, in a light green sari.

They made a pretty picture too, at the Calicut Bar Association Hall here on Monday afternoon. It was a memorable meeting between the real-life heroine and the reel-life heroine.

The film that has connected them, Ennu Ninte Moideen , is the biggest hit of the year in Malayalam.

They were honoured by the lawyers’ organisation because Parvathy’s parents are the members of their association, as is Kanchanamala’s sister.

At the function, Kanchanamala, who had been living in obscurity at Mukkom near here as a social worker except for a few reports in the media about her remarkable love affair with Moideen, said how the film changed her life.

One of the favourite actresses

People, from distant places come to her home, even three months after the film was released. As for the talented Parvathy, she has become one of the favourite actresses of Malayalis.

“Ever since the film’s release, I have been finding it hard to go for my social service activities. People come to meet me 8 a.m. some of them even in a hired vehicles,” said Kanchanamala. “When I reach home at 8 or 9 in the night, there are still admirers waiting for me. And they come to my office too. I am grateful to their love, but I wish I am allowed to do my work,” she said.

Parvathy, in her speech, requested people to respect the privacy of Kanchanamala. “We live in the age of the social media. That is not something I am not proud of, but I think we should let Kanchanamala live peacefully,” she said. “I am delighted that I got an opportunity to play the role of Kanchanamala,” she said. She said it was because of the role that she received so much affection from the people.

“They love me because they believe I am Kanchanamala,” she said. “I am in cinema because of roles like these. I am not here for fame,” she said.
