Kudumbasree to train women for IT jobs

March 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:08 am IST - Kozhikode:

After successfully implementing various women empowerment programmes in the agriculture and marketing sector, the Kudumbasree Mission in the district is all set to train women for jobs in Information Technology (IT) and allied sectors.

Coordinators of the project say they have already identified 16 potential sectors, where women can secure placements.

The new programme will offer courses in Web designing, computer software, medical transcription, BPO services, customer service, communication, logistics and other IT-related programmes to cater to the increasing needs of automobile, hospitality and construction sectors.

Already, 13 established firms working in these fields have been identified for conducting the formal training and providing placement assistance.

Candidates between the age of 14 and 35 will get priority under the scheme, which is included in the Central government’s Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana. Along with the three-month crash training programme, candidates will brush up their English communication skills.

According to Kudumbasree officials, 75 percent of the total candidates will be able to secure spot placement on completion of their course.

Interested candidates can extend their training period up to one year for acquiring additional skills and competence in the selected stream. “Women who complete the three-month course will be able to get a minimum monthly income of Rs. 6,000. For those with one-year experience, it will be Rs.15,000 a month,” say the project coordinators. They also add that steps are in full swing to form migration support centres to facilitate job openings in the country and outside.

A survey conducted in the district by the Kudumbasree Mission found an enthusiastic response to the course by women. Around 1,60,000 persons responded positively to the idea.

Candidates will get free training along with travel allowances.
