The State Archives department, which is celebrating its golden jubilee, has arranged a convention on official languages, exhibitions, and seminars at the Town Hall here from October 8 to 11 to highlight its efforts to popularise use of Malayalam for government’s administrative work.
There would also be a seminar and exhibition of historical documents during the programme, organisers said. Archives department, formed in 1962 with the principal objective of preserving the State’s rich cultural heritage stored in historical records, had switched over to Malayalam for its official use in 1987.
The department was engaged in collecting documents of historical value from government agencies, public sector undertakings as well as individuals and protecting them using scientific methods. These are made available for research as well as for information of the public.
The convention on official language to be held on October 8 would be inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister K.C. Joseph. A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, will preside.
M.K Raghavan, MP, will inaugurate the exhibition. Rani George, Secretary, Department of Culture; J. Rejikumar, Director, Archives department; M.G.S. Narayanan, Director General, Centre for Heritage Studies, Tripunithura; and B. Muhammed Ahammed, Chairman, Kerala Folklore Akademi, will speak.
