Senior Congress leaders in the district should desist from making public statements, District Congress Committee (DCC) president K. Surendran has said.
He was referring to the controversy surrounding the construction of the new DCC office and the allegations levelled by a section of party workers against him in connection with the expulsion of some party workers, at a press meet here on Tuesday.
Mr. Surendran said the new DCC office, a dream project of the party workers in the district, was discussed at a DCC meeting prior to the foundation stone laying ceremony, which took place on May 27. A section of the party workers kept themselves away from the May 27 meeting and another one that was convened to discuss the construction plan and suggest any changes. These party workers then raised allegations in the media with respect to the plan, he said.
No individual could take any decision about the property, which was under the control of the AICC, Mr. Surendran said, adding that all procedures regarding the new office were transparent.
On the alleged high-handed decision to expel party workers in Kurumathoor and Ayyankunnu panchayats, he said at Kurumathoor, Kerala Students Union workers who were reportedly involved in a derogatory act had been suspended pending inquiry. At Ayyankunnu, the party workers who had challenged the party’s decision and supported a no-confidence motion against the panchayat president, a Congress party member, had been expelled. These were legal steps and not autocratic decisions, he said, urging party workers to resolve the issues through talks and maintain unity.
