Instances of media gag will continue if journalists are reluctant to criticise judges and the judiciary, academic M.N. Karassery has said.

He was inaugurating a programme organised by the Calicut Press Club here on Tuesday in protest against the curb on reporting news stories related to the alleged financial fraud in which an MLA’s son is an accused.

Mr. Karassery said that mediapersons and political activists should not shy away from criticising judges. Judiciary was the final hope of the people. The media gag ruling was nothing less than shocking. Mediapersons and media institutions should not toe this line and continue to publish and air stories critical of the judiciary, he added.

Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) president Kamal Varadoor, Press Club secretary P. Vipulnath and KUWJ former general secretary N. Padmanabhan were present.
