ISM bid to ‘counter extremism’

July 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Ithihadu Shubbanil Mujahideen (ISM), youth wing of the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen, will organise a ‘Kerala Islamic seminar’ at Kasaragod on August 27 and 28.

A State leadership meeting of the ISM held here said that the seminar was aimed at countering the expansion of the global network of religious extremism in the State. The influence of religious extremism in the State had to be seen seriously, it felt.

The meeting said that the authorities concerned should clear the mystery over the disappearance of youths from Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram.

Defamation attempts

It also deplored the deliberate attempts being made from various quarters to defame “progressive Muslim organisations.”

The meeting claimed that the Mujahid establishment had been relentlessly campaigning against religious extremism and communalism in the State for a decade. The anti- terror pledge organised by the ISM at Kuttiyadi recently had attracted national attention, the meeting said.

Monitoring

The State government should be prepared to keep a tab on youths engaged at centres in the name of religious studies.

The meeting also condemned the alleged propaganda against Islamic scholar Zakir Naik.

It was unfortunate that Dr. Naik who had been spreading the message of religious humanitarianism had been attacked from all sides, the meeting felt.

ISM State president A.I. Abdul Majeed Swali presided over the meeting.
