Health officials in the district have tightened surveillance at three places in Koyilandy Municipality and at Chengottuvaku panchayat after eight cases of malaria were reported from these places.
While the cases have occurred over a period of three months, the reporting of three cases this week has prompted the authorities to step up vigil on Korayangadu Road, Gokulam Beach, and Kuruvangad under Koyilandy Municipality, besides Chengottukavu.
According to District Medical Officer R.L. Saritha, the affected persons had not travelled out of their respective regions. This highlights the fact that all are indigenous cases – contracting the malaria parasite locally.
