The Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road Action Committee has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy demanding immediate action to implement the decisions taken at various meetings with regard to the development of the stretch.

The work on the road needs immediate speeding up as the draft notification will expire in April 2015.

But the district administration has not so far taken any action towards completing the land acquisition process, either of organising District Level Purchase Committee (DLPC) meetings of the land owners whose lands are to be acquired and or getting advance land offers from the owners.

Strict orders sought

The action committee urged the Chief Minister to give strict orders to the District Collector to finish the tasks on a timely basis.

The committee had organised six zonal meetings of those people whose land was being acquired. Many of them have already consented to give away their lands for a token advance.

The committee expressed its anxiety that the road development would be sabotaged with it taking too long to complete the acquisition process.

The committee also called for the immediate transfer of the State government land needed for the development.

It wanted the shops and other establishments to be demolished and that the DLPC meetings should be finished by the end of September.

The committee requested the Chief Minster to release at least Rs.25 crore for the initial works.

Rs.100 crore

The Chief Minister earlier announced that Rs.100 crore for the project would be passed in the supplementary budget in February 2015 and the rest would be passed in the Budget in March.

Sabu K. Philip, Executive Engineer, took charge as the special officer for the project.

The committee also demanded the appointment of another officer to assist him.
