The Kerala IT Mission has cautioned the public against providing important identity documents to private online service providers who claim to be Akshaya entrepreneurs and facilitate various government e-services.
Officials said they had received intelligence inputs about the functioning of such fake units in the district and those would be shut down with the support of the district administration.
Many of the unrecognised centres have been found using their private user IDs to offer services and often make mistakes while filing documents online. Some of the fake units have even used the official Akshaya logo.
“There are 177 government-approved Akshaya centres in the district, and no other private firm is authorised to offer Akshaya e-services,” Akshaya coordinator P.S. Ashitha told The Hindu . Private internet cafes had no right to function as Akshaya centres and independently manage business, she added.
Noticing a rise in the number of dubious online service providers, the State government is actively considering the scope of opening more approved Akshaya centres with trained entrepreneurs. In Kozhikode district, 21 new centres will come up during this fiscal.
New Akshaya centres
IT Mission officials said at least two or three approved Akshaya centres would be opened in each grama panchayat to popularise reliable e-services.
District Collector U.V. Jose, who is also the Chief Coordinator of the Akshaya Project, has also cautioned the public against the operation of illegal ‘Akshaya’ service centres. At a recent meeting, he said Aadhaar enrolment and e-district services of the government would be permitted only through authorised Akshaya centres.
A list of approved centres has been published on the official portal of Akshaya, and all other units engaged in misusing the service with fake identities will be brought to book.
