Kozhikode is expected to complete the Computerisation of Land Records (CLR) project within the next four months. A pilot project initiated by the Union government, CLR aims at streamlining the conventional method of record management with the help of modern technology.

Village offices under Kozhikode, Koyilandy, Thamarassery and Vadakara taluks have started distributing forms to collect land ownership details from individuals. It will be validated with the help of original documents at village-level camps.

In Kozhikode taluk, computerisation works are under way in Valayanad, Kottuli, Chathamangalam, Kumaranallur and Kodiyathur villages. In Thamarassery taluk, the Panangad village office will complete computerisation work in the first phase. Chemanchery, Atholy and Chakkittappara village offices under Koyilandy taluk and Chekyad, Valayanad and Velam village offices under Vadakara taluk too will be part of the drive in the first phase.

Village-level camps

Revenue officers said village-level camps would be conducted in convenient locations, where filled-in forms would be verified against original land documents. Though the staff strength in many offices was low, steps were under way to rope in officials of other departments, they added.

A village officer from the district said it was the second time that the Revenue Department was attempting to implement CLR project in the district. In the first attempt, several forms were distributed among landholders, but data entry and validation works after collecting it were pending, he said.

The Revenue Department hopes that the data collection and validation will be easy this time as the participation of related departments has been ensured. Meetings have been held with heads of various local bodies, leaders of self-help groups and elected representatives from various panchayats.
