District Collector C. A. Latha has directed that all illegal advertisement boards that have been placed in the major junctions and road sides in Kozhikode be removed by August 13. The decision to this effect was made at a recently held Road Safety Authority meeting.

After August 13, the boards will be forcefully removed under the leadership of the District Superintendent of Police, and the expense will be levied from the advertisement company that had put the hoarding, the Collector said. A special squad consisting of the Police, RTO, PWD and Corporation officials has been formed to monitor the matter.

The meeting decided to set up fully automatic punching station in the highways to control the over-speeding of vehicles and thus to check the increasing motor accidents. The Superintendant of Police (traffic) has been directed to prepare an estimate for the project. The PWD has been directed to place traffic signboards along the roads.

The suggestion to redirect buses to other districts through Mini Bypass to control the traffic congestion in Nadakkavu has been postponed for the next meeting. Police Commissioner Sparjan Kumar, Rural SP, T.K.Rajmohan, Traffic SP, P.Abdul Hameed, RTO Rajic Puthalath and PWD executive engineer P.A. M. Iqbal took part in the meeting.
