A special police team led by Assistant Commissioner (North) C. M. Pradeepkumar on Sunday arrested P.K. Ajith, one of the two main accused in the demolition of Malapparamba Aided Upper Primary School.

The police team took him into custody from Feroke railway station while he was on his way from Chennai to Kozhikode.

The accused was charged under section 447 (punishment for criminal trespass) of the IPC and section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act.

He would be produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-I in Kozhikode on Monday.

Police officials said the accused was seeking shelter in various locations in Chennai, Ooty, and Thrissur.

“He had fled from the spot after the incident. Ajith is also the brother of C.M. Padmarajan, the manager of the school and one of the two main accused in the case,” they added.

The police team led by Mr. Pradeepkumar and Chevayoor Sub Inspector V.K. Siju made the first breakthrough in the case after a month-long enquiry, tracing phone calls and tracking tower locations.

Yet to get information

They were yet to get any information on Padmarajan, the first accused in the case, who was found absconding after the April 11 incident.

The Malapparamba school, which functioned as a polling station during the recent Lok Sabha elections, had been in the news for the past several months, following a decision of the State government to close it down on a request from its manager P.K. Padmarajan.

The manager had then cited non-viability as the reason to close down the school.
