A decapitated body, which was found abandoned in a heap of garbage along Thondinmmel road in Karassery panchayat, was moved to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination on Friday. The hands and legs, which had been cut off from the male victim, were missing.
Police sources said two severed limbs, which were earlier recovered from the Chaliyam coastline, were found to match the body in the preliminary investigation. “The victim was strangulated as per the latest medical investigation report,” the sources said.
“We are yet to identify the dead person as the investigation is still going on to trace all the recently reported man missing cases. Several suspicious cases have already been cross-checked on the basis of public information,” said Assistant Commissioner K.P. Abdul Razak. He said a breakthrough in the case would be possible only after identifying the victim.
It was on June 28 that a severed left hand was first spotted on the coastline of Chaliyam. The incident was shrouded in mystery as a right hand too was found at the same spot two days later. The police had then said that the hands could have been chopped off using a sharp weapon and it was, prima facie, a “cruel murder”.
