Counting at three centres in district

Arrangements under way for smooth counting of votes: Collector

Arrangements are being made for a smooth counting process in the district, Collector C.A. Latha, who is also the District Election Officer, has said.

Counting of votes polled in the election on April 10 will be held on May 16 at three centres. The counting for the Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency will be held at Farook College, Feroke, while that for the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency will be held at JDT Islam Complex, Vellimadukunnu. The counting for the Thiruvambadi Assembly constituency which is part of the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency will be held at Government Law College, Vellimadukunnu.

At Farook College, the counting for the Balussery Assembly constituency will be held at the training college auditorium, while that for Elathur will be held at the training college seminar hall on the first floor. Counting for Kozhikode North will be held at the training college seminar hall on the ground floor, and for Kozhikode South at the TTI seminar hall on the first floor. The counting for Beypore will be held on the east side of the second floor at the High School, while that for Kunnamangalam will be held on the west side of the same block. The counting for Koduvally will be held on the west side building of the High School.

At the JDT Islam Complex, the counting for the Thalassery Assembly constituency and the Koothuparamba constituency will be held on the north and south sides, respectively, of the third floor of the Dr. Muhammed Abduyamani memorial auditorium. The counting for Vadakara will be held at the Al Noori Nursing Complex auditorium, while that for Kuttiyadi on the west side of the JDT Islam Complex auditorium.

Counting for Nadapuram will be held on the east side of the same auditorium, that for Koyilandy at the ITC Hall, and for Perambra in the polytechnic auditorium.

Tight vigil

The strongrooms where the voting machines are kept are under high vigil, and the District Collector pays periodical visits to analyse the arrangements. The shortlist of officials for counting duty will be published by May 7. The training for micro-observers and counting staff will be completed by May 12. Around 1,000 officials, including reserve staff, will be appointed. Communication facilities, including closed-circuit television cameras, will be set up.

The postal ballots of both the Lok Sabha constituencies in the district will be counted at the Collectorate as per the Election Commission’s orders. A media centre will be set up at the Civil Station, a press release said.
