Coconut societies come under a company’s shade

Nearly 10,000 coconut growers are expected to benefit by the Kozhikode Coconut Farmers Producers Company’s programmes.

As many as 120 societies of coconut growers have become members of the Kozhikode Coconut Farmers Producers Company, formed as an initiative of Coconut Development Board to ensure better returns for coconut growers.

Nearly 10,000 coconut growers are expected to benefit by the company’s programmes.

The formal declaration of the formation of the company will be made on January 18 by Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan at Jaya Auditorium.

Office-bearers of the societies, which are affiliated to the company, would participate in the convention.

The Minister would also inaugurate at the function a coconut festival, P. Pradeepkumar, chairman of the company, said here on Thursday.

Value-added products

Besides ensuring fair price for coconut, the company would manufacture and market value-added products from coconut, produce good quality coconut seedlings, encourage planting of new trees after removing old ones, and find new uses for coconut shells and coconut logs.

Besides raising funds from farmers through issue of shares, the company would also be seeking funds from financial agencies for its activities, Pradeepkumar said.
