Closure of liquor outlet sought

The Madyavirudha Bodhavalkarana Samithi of Puthiyangadi has warned of strong protest moves if the Beverages Corporation outlet in Puthiyangadi Koya Road is not closed down immediately.

In a press release, the Samithi said that the outlet was functioning illegally and hence needed to be shut down. Ganesh Babu, owner of the building in which the outlet functions, had claimed the building back as the duration of agreement between him and the Corporation had expired on May 11, 2013. But the building has not yet been vacated by the Beverages Corporation. On the other hand, a petition filed under the Right to Information Act by a member of the Samithi to the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation has proved that the outlet did not possess a licence from the Corporation’s Health Department and that the validity of the licence had expired on March 31, 2013.

The Corporation had in fact sent various notices to shut down the establishment. The Samithi warned that the public would lay siege to the establishment if the authorities did not take any steps to shut it down by July 28.
