The Rural police will open its first family crime prevention counselling centre at the Vadakara police station on Monday. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the facility.

Police officers in charge of the initiative say that the centre will offer its services to bring down the number of family crimes in rural areas and provide assistance to people. A trained counsellor will coordinate its activities.

The air-conditioned centre has all modern facilities. According to officials, the government has already spent Rs.10 lakh to set up the building and other amenities. A woman sub-inspector will head the routine functioning of the centre with the support of the officers at the Vadakara station. The centre will mainly deal with complaints on clashes between spouses.
