BJP flays CPI(M) stance

August 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:27 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president V. Muraleedharan has said the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] is adopting the style and language of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) by supporting the Mumbai blast convict Yakub Razak Memon, who was hanged on Thursday.

Addressing a news conference here on Friday, Mr. Muraleedharan said the CPI(M) had accepted a posture that would have dangerous repercussions in the State. That party had a history of backing the anti-national approach of the IUML earlier also.

Stressing that the rule of law was applicable to everyone, Mr. Muraleedharan said it was unfortunate that the Muslim League refused to obey the laws when it went against that party. If the CPI(M) wanted to abolish death penalty, their leaders should choose to bring in legislation via Parliament.

Tharoor criticised

He also said Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had defied the rule of law and Parliament.

If he was against the death penalty awarded to Memon, he should have raised the issue in Parliament with the assistance of the Congress. Instead of making a hue and cry outside, Mr. Tharoor humiliated Parliament and challenged the law of the land, Mr. Muraleedharan said.
