Ayurveda is not just a system of medicine, but a lifestyle that people in India followed at least until modern medicine took over.
‘Mazhakkalacharya’, a programme organised by the Ayurveda Medical Association of India Kozhikode district Committee in association with Ayurveda Cooperative Society and KMCT Ayurveda Medical College in Kozhikode on Thursday, was an attempt to create awareness about the lifestyle that we have forgotten, especially what needs to be followed during the rainy season.
The programme was inaugurated by District Collector N. Prashanth. The programme comprised an exhibition and distribution of medicinal plants, distribution of incense, the smoke of which had power to ward off various diseases, and classes on various related topics.
An exhibition titled ‘Varshacharya’ explained what to do and what not to do during monsoon — the kind of food that could be taken and not taken, amount of food, how to take food as well as when to take it, combined with other activities to be undertaken during the season.
An Ayurveda Health Card was distributed to around 100 people who underwent a medical check-up at the venue. Doctors who completed training for the ‘Vanitha clinic’ of the AMAI were given certificates.
The logo of the clinic was launched. Government High School, Thrikkuttisseri, that implemented the ‘Oushadhavanam’ project, was honoured on the occasion.
President of AMAI P.K.Venugopalan, DMO (Ayurveda) Valsamma Mangalasseril, Chairperson of Vanitha clinic State cub committee K.K.Savithri and Principal of KMCT Ayurveda Medical College S.G. Chandni were present.
