The district anti-child labour squad on Tuesday rescued six children employed at various industrials units in the Nallalam and Feroke regions.

The children were rescued from Kashka Upper stitching unit at Nallalam, another stitching unit at Pootheri Illam in Feroke, and an institution named Manasi Initiative, following a tip-off. The children, natives of West Bengal and Bihar, told Childline officials that they were made to do hard labour at the units. The children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee. The anti-child labour squad was formed as per the directions of the Childline advisory committee chaired by the District Collector. The squad is headed by Assistant Police Commissioner E.P. Prithviraj.

Nallalam sub-inspector E. Sudhakaran, civil police officer Shaji, Child Protection Officer Subheesh Theyyampadi, Childline district coordinator M.P. Mohammedali, centre coordinator Sulaiman P.P. and Assistant Labour Officer V.M. Vijayan were part of the team that conducted the raid. The squad noted that some of the industrial units in the region were working in unhygienic conditions. This would be brought to the notice of the Health Department, Mr. Mohemmadali said in a press release. Childline officials requested the public to pass on any information on child labour or child abuse via the toll free number 1098.

Details of informants would be kept confidential.
