Three decades since he first sung Thozhuthu madangum sandhyayumetho …, singer Unni Menon sounded as fresh when he rendered the song at a live show at the Tagore Centenary Hall here on Friday night.

The song was one of the many highlights of a memorable evening of melodies.

Unni was in great form when he rendered Oru chempaneer… , the song he had composed and sang for Sthithi , in which he had acted as well.

Maiden song

A singer who is perfectly at home on stage, he got the audience to clap right through when he sang his maiden film song Olangal thalam... ( Kadathu ).

He went on to regale the appreciative listeners of Kozhikode with his hits such as Poonkatte… ( Shyama ), Mazhaneer thullikal… ( Beautiful ) and Puthu vellai mazhai… ( Roja ).

Strong support

Unni was well supported by singers like Sindhu Premkumar, who impressed the audience with her rendering of Ponnurukum pookkalam… ( Koodevide ), and Sunil Kumar, who sang Ilayanila… ( Payanangal Mudivathillai ) competently.

The musical evening was organised by Voice of Calicut and Navatharang.

Earlier, Unni Menon, who has completed 33 years as a playback singer, was felicitated at a function inaugurated by Kozhikode Mayor A.K. Premajam.
