The Ambassador car still has its fans.

There are many people who deem Ambassador cars unfashionable, bulky, or unsophisticated. But for a whole lot of Amby lovers, it is still the ‘king of roads.’ These are the people who are most saddened by the announcement that Ambassador has stopped production.

A group of Ambassador lovers in Kozhikode and neighbouring districts came together to form Amla (Amby Lovers Association) in Kozhikode on Wednesday. It was Manjeri Sunderraj, a lawyer, who initiated the get-together. More than fifty Amby lovers responded to the invitation and participated.

Amla will hold a Malabar-level convention and a roadshow by the end of June. After a similar convention in Chennai in July, the Amby lovers plan to send a delegation West Bengal to urge the government to revive the car company.

“Ambassador is still the most preferred among taxi drivers in Kolkota. For a foreign tourist who visits the city, their visit is incomplete without a ride in the back seat of an Ambassador. The car was once deemed the best taxi car in the world,” Mr. Sunderraj said. At the get-together, there were Ambi lovers who owned cars of various periods. Some were made as early as in 1960, he said.
