Government schools in the Koyilandy Assembly constituency are all set to introduce a new educational development project, ‘DEEP’ (Dasan Educational Empowerment Programme), with multi-crore investment utilising the support of various government and private institutions.
The project, currently under a trial run in selected schools in the constituency, will formally be launched by Minister for Education P.K. Abdu Rabb in the first week of September.
Refurbishing the physical amenities of the school to meet modern-day standards is one of the main goals planned under the project, which also aims high on revolutionising the traditional classrooms with the latest technologies.
K. Dasan, MLA, who conceived the project and chairs the ‘DEEP’ management committee, said a series of innovative development programmes were on the anvil for selected educational institutions.
“Some of them include the setting up of hi-tech virtual lab for fuelling students’ passion for international developments in science, techno-friendly classrooms with WiFi connectivity and heritage centres for the conservation of native inventions and traditional knowledge,” he added.
Modification of conventional school libraries is another priority area where digitalisation will sweep the old system.
Computerised cataloging method will be introduced in the selected schools besides ensuring uninterrupted Net connectivity for spot references.
In the scheme, the funds sanctioned by the government for various educational programmes will be pooled together for the project and allocated in a sensible way after taking into account the requirements of each school. As per the plan, the available local development funds of MLAs and MPs too will be utilised together for completing the mission.
Schools identifiedGovernment Vocational Higher Secondary School, Payyoli; Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Boys, Koyilandy; Government Mappila Vocational Higher Secondary School, Koyilandy; and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Koyilandy; have been identified as the four major schools to benefit from the project. Nearly Rs.10 crore will be invested for the development of physical amenities at these institutions.
