Accident death: youth arrested

The city police, on Sunday, arrested Jaswin, a 21-year-old youth from Thrissur, who allegedly knocked down a two-wheeler rider with his luxury car at Kothi on Saturday.

P. Jamshina, the two-wheeler rider, who suffered serious injuries, died on the way to a private hospital in the city. Her children, Azra and Khadeeja, suffered serious injuries in the incident. Police officials said the youth had hit two other two-wheeler riders also in the reckless driving.

Protest over incident

The accident led to a protest demonstration in the area and a group of people vandalised the car involved in the accident.

Police officials who reached the spot also were manhandled.

They blocked the road seeking more illumination on the road.

Tension was eased after the police agreed to take up the issue. The youth accused in the accident, was charged under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
