The Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s cultural centre at Anakkulam is getting a fresh lease of life with the corporation council approving the tariff structure for various rooms at the centre.
The rates were proposed by the administrative committee of the centre chaired by Mayor Thottathil Raveendran.
New tariff
As per the proposal, the dormitories at the centre may be rented out at the rate of ₹1,000 for 15 people per day. For additional persons, additional rent of ₹50 per bed will be charged.
The rehearsal room may be rented out for ₹250 per day while the stage hall will cost ₹2,000 per day and ₹1,000 for half a day. The big hall on the west side of the centre as well as the amphitheatre will be available at the same rate. Individual rooms will cost ₹100 per day. The taxes fixed by the State and Central governments will be levied in addition.
The council has directed the administrative committee to appoint a temporary manager for the centre. The chairman will be in charge of holding cultural programmes at the centre by getting in touch with the State Department of Culture.
The council has decided to name the amphitheatre after noted dramatist P.M. Taj while other halls will be named after cultural leaders. The council also directed the committee to prepare a bylaw for the administration of the centre.
The cultural centre, which was inaugurated two years ago, has been in a state of disuse with no programmes being organised there. It was in April 2016 that an administrative committee was set up to manage the affairs of the centre.
