In yet another instance of post poll conflict, a youth in the Malbazar area of Jalpaiguri district was allegedly threatened by a local Trinamool Congress leader for making a post on social media about the Narada sting operation.

The post featured a collage of many Trinamool leaders who were seen taking bribes in the sting footage.

The youth, Rohit Passi, is a member of the civil society organisation Akranto Amra, whose founder member Ambikesh Mahapatra has contested the Assembly polls as a Left and Congress-supported Independent candidate.

“Last Wednesday I made a post on Facebook about the Narada sting operation and a local TMC student leader threatened to assault me in his comments,” Mr. Passi told The Hindu .

Mr Passi has lodged an FIR with the Malbazar police station. In the FIR he stated: “Me and my family are feeling threatened due to such comments. It was Surojit Debnath, a resident of Ward no. 5 of Malbazar who made the comments.” The local Trinamool leadership, however, denied the allegations and has reportedly lodged an FIR against Mr. Passi for making threatening remarks.

Accusing the Trinamool of indulging in “political vendetta”, Mr. Passi further said he was facing threats for campaigning for candidates of the Left-Congress alliance. This is the second time he has faced such “threats” from the Trinamool.

In February, he was detained by police for criticising a local Trinamool leader on social media.

Meanwhile, post poll violence continued in the State. While a Communist Party of India-Marxist party office was allegedly vandalised by the TMC cadres in Bandel of Hooghly district, a polling agent of Mr. Mahapatra was allegedly threatened by Trinamool supporters in Behala in South Kolkata. Bombs were allegedly hurled at his house.
