Ahead of the crucial panchayat polls in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress is trying to cement its position through festival and conferences.
While party chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated a seven-day Uttar Banga Utsav in north Bengal, in south Bengal’s Birbhum the party organised a first-of-its-kind priests conference.
The conference was organised by party’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, who mounted attack on Bharatiya Janata Party by targetting Mukul Roy, who recently left Trinamool and joined the BJP. .
Thousands of men draped in saffron joined the gathering at Bolpur Dak Bunglow and they were given copies of Bhagwad Geeta along with photographs of Shree Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. The event started with Sanskrit mantras and ended with Chandi Paath.
Mr Roy has in the past few weeks held several rallies in the district trying to expand the footprints of the BJP.
Though Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was conspicuous by her absence, large cut outs of her were seen at the rally venue.
