Four persons have been arrested here for allegedly raping two teenagers whom they befriended on a social networking site.
Senior police officers said the accused first approached the girls on a prominent social networking site, following which they exchanged their cellphone numbers.
On Thursday, one of the accused asked the girls to come to a lake in South Kolkata. From there, they were taken to another location where the crime was allegedly committed.
“The four accused were arrested from different parts of the city on Friday night,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Suburban Division) Santosh Pandey told The Hindu on Saturday.
Among the four accused, two are claiming to be minors.
In March last year too, a teenage girl was allegedly raped by a person whom she met on a social networking site.
Jadavpur student alleges rape Meanwhile, a girl student of the city’s Jadavpur University claimed that she was raped by three students of the university.
An FIR has been registered. As per the complaint, the incident took place at around 9.30 p.m. on Friday during a fest on the university campus.
