In an embarrassment to the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), a Saradha Group employee considered close to the company 's chairman and managing director Sudipta Sen said here on Tuesday that Mr Sen had held meetings with senior Trinamool leaders before fleeing the city in April 2013.
Arvind Singh Chouhan, who was released on bail during the day, told journalists that Mr Sen had met AITC general secretary Mukul Roy and Suvendhu Adhikari MP before he fled to Kashmir in April.
Mr Chouhan was arrested along with Mr Sen and another Saradha official Debyani Mukherjee from Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir on April 23, days after the scam came to fore. “I was not involved in any conspiracy…. All conspirators are roaming outside,” Mr Chouhan, who drove Sudipta Sen out of the State, told journalists.
He stated that he had no information that Mr Sen was fleeing the West Bengal. “I was asked to come to Kolkata… On April 5, Mr Sen held a meeting at Nizam Palace (Central Government Office Complex) where among others Mukul Roy was present. Two days later Subhendhu Adhikari met Mr Sen at the company’s Midland Park Office,” Mr Chouhan said. The remarks are crucial as it comes at a time when several leaders of the AITC are under the scanner of the CBI which is investigating the scam on the directions of the Supreme Court. The CBI has also arrested retired IPS officer Rajat Majumdar, East Bengal club official Debabrata Sarkar, city-based businessman Sandhir Agarwal and singer from Assam Sadananda Gogoi.
While the Trinamool Congress leadership remained tight-lipped on the issue, Opposition parties used the opportunity to take on the ruling party.
