November 27, 2015 02:45 am | Updated 02:45 am IST - KOLKATA:

Several parts of the city came to a grinding halt following rallies and processions organised by political outfits on Thursday.

Jamiat Ulema-E-Hind organised a rally in protest against intolerance in the country. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the rally . During a similar meeting called by the same outfit inNovember last year, eight policemen and senior IPS officers were injured.

While Ms. Banerjee maintained that the Jamiat Ulema-E-Hind rally at Shahid Minar grounds was well organised, arterial roads in the central parts of the city remained chocked.
