Holi was celebrated with gaiety and fervour in West Bengal on Thursday as revellers took to streets armed with sprinklers since morning.

Rainbow-coloured

Streets got rainbow-coloured as people played with colours of different hues to mark Holi, known as ‘Dolyatra’ in the State.

At ‘Gurudev’ Rabindranath Tagore’s abode of Shantiniketan, thousands of people from different parts of the country and abroad gathered to celebrate ‘Basanto Utsav’ (Spring festival).

Tagore songs

After the customary ‘prabhat pheri’ , tourists were treated with recitals of Tagore songs and dances.

The day was celebrated with religious fervour at the Vaishnavite shrines of Nabadwip in Nadia district and at the ISCKON headquarters in the nearby Mayapur town.

Monks of the Ramakrishna Mission celebrated the day with the traditional early ‘prabhat pheri’ inside the premises of its headquarter Belur Math.
