Not a flood situation in Bengal, says Mamata

Due to excessive rain over last 72 hours, situation is grim but “not out of control” said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“I did a monitoring meeting today; we are carefully observing the developments and sent relief to affected areas especially tents and blankets,” said Ms. Banerjee before leaving for one-day trip to Delhi.

She will attend the swearing in ceremony of Ram Nath Kovind and expected to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi.

“There is water in certain low lying areas of Purulia, West Medinipur, Hooghly and Birbhum district,” she said.

Without naming any organisations, the Chief Minister said, “They have released water and it has created the situation.”

Usually, the thermal power producing company Damodar Valley Corporation release water during monsoon.
