You can now order meals of your choice in trains on routes under the control of Northeast Frontier Railway headquartered in Guwahati’s Maligaon area.

Officials of India’s easternmost railway zone said the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has engaged 13 service providers in eight stations to provide meals chosen by passengers from a menu.

These eight stations are Katihar and Kishanganj in Bihar, New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, and New Bongaigaon, Guwahati, Lumding, Dimapur and New Tinsukia in Assam.

Apart from these stations, NFR has begun the process of empanelling vendors for seven more stations, including Tripura capital Agartala, for such service.

“Passengers can avail the option of food of their choice delivered right to their berths on arrival of the train at the station after ordering on website, mobile app or SMS. The payment can be made after receiving the food,” NFR spokesperson Pranav Jyoti Sharma said on Wednesday.

IRCTC had introduced the facility of pre-ordered meals a few months ago.

This e-catering is presently available at 409 stations across the 18 zones of Indian Railways.

The service has prepaid and cash on delivery options, Mr. Sharma said.
