October 13, 2014 10:20 am | Updated May 23, 2016 03:58 pm IST - KOLKATA:

Education Minister Partha Chatterjee will meet members of the Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) at the State Assembly on Monday, said JUTA general secretary Nilanjana Gupta here on Sunday. The University will reopen after the Puja vacations on the same day.

However, JUTA members did not seek an appointment with Mr. Chatterjee, said Ms. Gupta. “Mr. Chatterjee wanted to meet us, but we do not know what is going to be discussed in the meeting,” she added. There has not been any change in JUTA’s stand over its demand for resignation of Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti.

On September 17, the police used force to remove students who gheraoed Mr. Chakrabarty demanding fresh probe panel investigating the alleged molestation of a female student by seniors. The police crackdown intensified the agitation and the students have been demanding Mr. Chakrabarty's resignation.
