Keen to keep up the tempo gained during her business trip to Singapore last week, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday held a two-hour confabulation with a large group of industrialists.
The 34 businessmen who attended the meeting at Nabanna were part of the 48–member Singapore business delegation whom Ms. Banerjee had led.
Amit Mitra, Minister of Finance, IT, Industries and Commerce, told journalists after the meeting that the main objective was to take suggestions for industrialising the State. “The main issue was attracting investments for various sectors.”
“A dialogue has begun,” he said. A few memoranda of understanding and letters of intent were signed at Singapore. The delegation comprised almost all major private sector corporates based in the city.
The meeting on Wednesday came a day after the State’s Standing Committee on Industry cleared land and space for 14 projects in four specified industrial parks in the State ensuring an investment of Rs 100 crore.
Five-acre land had been cleared for a manufacturing unit to be set up at Vidyasagar Industrial Park, Kharagpur.
Space was provided to nine units in gems and jewellery park and a garment park.
