The CBI on Friday questioned magician-turned-BJP leader P.C. Sorcar in connection with the chit fund scam.

Mr. Sorcar, who contested the Lok Sabha elections from Barasat, is the first BJP leader to be questioned in connection with the scam. This has come as an embarrassment for the party. BJP State president Dilip Ghosh said Mr. Sorcar’s lawyers would reply to the issues raised by the CBI and that the party had nothing to do with it.

To set up restaurant

Later, Mr. Sorcar told journalists that the CBI asked him to furnish details of his dealing with the Tower group, which had raised money from market.

The magician said he had entered into an agreement with the company for setting up a restaurant.

As per the orders of the Supreme Court, along with the Saradha group, the CBI is probing several other Chit fund companies including the Tower group. The group was headed by Ramendu Chattopadhyay, who was questioned for alleged financial fraud.
