Even as the Central investigating agencies continue to expand the ambit of the Saradha scam probe by questioning the officials of the East Bengal Club here on Monday, All-India Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy said that he would quit politics if his association with the scam tainted company are proved.
“As far as the Saradha case is concerned, let me say this with full authority, if anyone can establish our party’s or any individual leader's link to Saradha, then I shall quit politics,” Mr. Roy had said on Sunday evening addressing meeting of party workers in the State’s Purba Medinipur district.
Mr. Roy further added that since the Trinamool Congress came to power in 2011 “not a single chit fund company has started its operation in the State” indicating that the Chit Fund companies started operating during the Left rule.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday questioned the secretary of East Bengal Kalyan Majumdar and assistant secretary Satyaranjan Dasgupta and the treasurer Kalyan Das.
After nearly two hours, the club officials came out of the CBI office and said that the investigating officers asked about the expenses of the club and the transaction of money. The CBI has earlier arrested East Bengal Club official Debabrata Sarkar.
