BJP rubbishes speculation of Mukul Roy joining the party

Amid speculations of former Trinamool Congress general secretary Mukul Roy joining the BJP, its national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh ruled out any such possibility here on Monday.

“There is no place for any corrupt individual in the BJP. For those who are perceived to be corrupt or under the clouds of corruption, BJP’s doors are not open to them,” said Mr Singh

Mr. Singh’s comments come at a time when Mr. Roy, once the second-in-command of TMC, had been stripped of all posts in the party. The rift between TMC chairperson and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Mr. Roy apparently came to surface after Mr. Roy was interrogated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection to the multi-crore Saradha scam.

Mr. Roy’s repeated assurance of extending full cooperation to the Central agency was in contradiction to TMC’s stand that had alleged that CBI was being used as ‘political tool’ by the BJP government at the Centre.

Mr. Singh also rubbished the speculations regarding a reported meeting between Mr. Roy and BJP president Amit Shah.
