Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from West Bengal including party president Rahul Sinha and State’s co-in charge Siddhartha Nath Singh met party’s national president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday and briefed him about the current political situation in the State.
“Mr. Shah expressed satisfaction with the work of the party in the State but asked us to prepare a roadmap keeping in view the civic polls scheduled in the State for 2015,” Mr. Sinha told The Hindu .
The BJP leader said that the party’s national president said that as the party is emerging the second largest party in the State it should focus to win the 2016 Assembly polls.
Mr. Sinha urged the BJP president to visit West Bengal and Mr. Shah agreed to visit the State next month.
During the interaction, senior party leader and party’s vice president Balbir Punj submitted a report on the attacks on the BJP supporters in the State.
Mr. Punj along with other leaders had visited Birbhum district after a party worker was killed in the district in post–poll violence in June.
Seek report from govtIn its report submitted to Mr. Shah, the Central team has urged the Union Home Ministry to take note of the incidents and seek a report from the State government besides directing it to take action in this regard.
“The minorities in the State are living in constant fear and are feeling insecure,” the report said, seeking the intervention of the National Minorities Commission.
Keep an eyeThe Central team also urged the BJP human rights cell to keep an eye on such incidents and ensure reaching out to the affected persons and to help grant adequate relief to them.
In the report it is alleged that local Trinamool Congress activists were behind the murder of 55-year-old Sheikh Rahim, who was killed at Ilambajar in Birbhum district, on June 7.
