A month-long session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly will start on June 6 and continue till July 10 during which about 15 legislations will be taken up for consideration and passing in the House, Speaker Biman Banerjee said here on Tuesday.

During the Extended Budget Session of the Assembly, demands for grants of different departments of the State government will also be considered and passed.

Among the important Bills to be tabled in this session is the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Bill, 2014, which will provide statutory powers to the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board, a body that conducts entrance examination to engineering and medical colleges in the State.

The Speaker held an all-party meeting during the day and urged representatives of different political parties to extend their cooperation in running the House.

On the allegations made by the opposition that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not spend enough time in the House, the Speaker said that the Chief Minister would be present in the House on June 13 when the Budget of the State’s Home Department of which she is in charge, would be taken up for consideration and passing. The Speaker said that compared to the year 2010 and 2011, the budget of a fewer departments was guillotined in 2012.

Meanwhile, the three legislators of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) have demanded that they be assigned seats separate from the treasury benches and the opposition benches.

In the three years of the Trinamool Congress government, the GJM legislators have on certain occasions approached the Speaker on changing seats depending on their relations with the Trinamool government.

A different seating arrangement for Abdur Razzak Molla, who was recently expelled by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), will also be made.

In another decision, the Speaker announced that instrumental music would be played in the Assembly half an hour before the commencement of the House and during the recess.
