No let-up in TMC-BJP war of words

January 09, 2017 11:32 pm | Updated 11:32 pm IST - Kolkata:

The hostilities and exchange of barbs between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continued on Monday with BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha alleging an attack by TMC cadres.

Mr. Sinha said the attack took place in the Uttarpara area of Hooghly district.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Sinha said that a nearly 70 TMC cadres, “armed with sticks and party flags”, tried to surround his vehicle when he went to visit a State BJP leader at a local nursing home.

“When I came out of the nursing home after seeing our State general secretary Krishna Bhattacharya, who was hospitalised due to the TMC’s attack, ruling party goons bashed my car with sticks and hurled filthy abuses at me,” said Mr. Sinha.

He further alleged that the attack took place “under instructions from the TMC’s top leadership” and was pre-planned.

The incident comes a day after Mr. Sinha’s comment at a party rally in Howrah district on arrested Trinamool MP Tapas Paul created an uproar.
