Mamata dubs PM a ‘salesman of plastic currency’

January 11, 2017 12:36 am | Updated 12:48 am IST - Kolkata:

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “120 deaths” in the wake of demonetisation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that her government has provided jobs and financial aid to kin of three persons who died while standing in bank and ATM queues.

Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav provided compensation of ₹5 lakh to family members of a woman in Aligarh who committed suicide after failing to exchange old notes. Mr. Yadav also announced relief of ₹2 lakh each to family members of the victims.

“I have provided government jobs to family members of a person from the tribal community in Bardhaman district and to the family members of a State-government staff who died in the ATM queue in Bandel (in Howrah district),” Ms. Banerjee said. She also said that her government has provided a relief of ₹2 lakh from the CM’s fund to the kin of an elderly person who died in the queue. She targeted the PM for the ongoing cash crunch and dubbed him as a “salesman of plastic currency”.
